Young Leaders Council

As kids grow beyond our hands-on exhibits, Discovery Center's Young Leaders Council gives them a new way to stay connected — through leadership, not just play. This selective teen leadership program is designed for middle and high schoolers who've "aged out" of the museum floor but haven't outgrown their curiosity or their love for this place. Council members explore real career paths in the museum field and beyond, gaining hands-on experience in mentorship, collaborative projects, and creative problem-solving. Through the Young Leaders Council, teens build practical leadership and career-readiness skills while serving as ambassadors both at Discovery Center and in their own communities. Open to motivated young people in Murfreesboro and Rutherford County, this youth leadership program brings together a diverse, driven group of teens who are passionate about giving back to the community where they live and learn.

As part of the Young Leaders Council, members serve as official Discovery Center Ambassadors, working together on committees to develop, manage, and implement programming for special community engagement events. It's a hands-on way for teens to build event planning, teamwork, and leadership experience while making a real impact at Discovery Center.

How to Join: Applications & Term Dates

The Young Leaders Council operates on an annual term running August through May. Applications for the 2027–2028 Young Leaders Council term open in April/early May, close in June, and invitations are sent out in July.

Donation Requests

The Discovery Center supports local nonprofit organizations and educational institutions by donating admission passes. The standard donation is two admission passes valued at $24. Donation Requests are processed monthly, and it may take up to two months for a response depending on your requested event date. One request per organization will be considered per calendar year. Please keep in mind that while each request receives careful consideration, we regret that we are unable to accommodate all requests. All requests must be submitted through the form below. Please do not call, email or mail your requests. You will be emailed if your donation is approved. Donations will be emailed to the email address indicated below prior to the event. Organizations must meet the following guidelines to be considered:

Donation requests for charitable events must be in the middle Tennessee area.
Organizations benefiting children and education receive priority.
Fundraisers to benefit an individual or families are not generally honored.
