These beautiful woven symbols were made to represent protection\, health\, and long life\, and are an example of the many cultural traditions that have helped shape communities across the United States. \nUsing yarn and simple weaving techniques\, guests will create their own symbolic craft while developing hand-eye coordination\, pattern recognition\, and fine motor skills. Along the way\, we’ll explore how weaving has been used by cultures around the world to create textiles\, tell stories\, and express identity. \nThis engaging activity celebrates the rich cultural traditions that contribute to America’s story while inspiring creativity through one of humanity’s oldest art forms. \nThis program is included with general admission.

Using magnifying glasses and microscopes\, we’ll take a closer look at plants such as lily pads\, cattails\, duckweed\, and parrot feather\, uncovering how each contributes to a healthy wetland ecosystem. \nOur investigation will continue with a guided tree walk through the wetlands\, where we’ll observe the different species growing along the shoreline and within the water itself. Along the way\, we’ll learn how trees and plants adapt to varying water levels and discover why their presence is essential to the health of the entire ecosystem. \nJoin us as we explore the beauty\, diversity\, and importance of the plants that help make wetlands some of the most valuable habitats on Earth. ????????????????

In this hands-on Discovery Design Time activity\, guests will explore cyanotype printing\, one of the earliest forms of photography that uses sunlight and chemistry to create striking blue-and-white images. \nAs part of our weather-themed programming\, participants will discover how ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun can trigger chemical reactions on specially treated paper. By arranging objects and exposing them to sunlight\, guests will create unique prints while learning how light\, shadows\, and weather conditions can influence the artistic process. \nAlong the way\, we’ll investigate the science behind UV rays\, discuss how sunlight affects our daily lives\, and explore how artists and inventors have used light-sensitive materials to capture images for nearly two centuries. \nThis engaging activity combines art\, chemistry\, and weather science\, giving guests the opportunity to experiment\, create\, and discover the hidden power of sunlight. \nThis program is included with general admission.

DESCRIPTION:Discover the incredible animals that call wetlands home and meet some of Discovery Center’s favorite animal ambassadors along the way! This engaging program will introduce participants to the diverse wildlife that depends on wetland habitats and the important role these ecosystems play in supporting native species. \nThe adventure begins with a special animal encounter featuring Bud the Eastern Box Turtle\, Kermie the Tree Frog\, Lou the Rat Snake\, and Tonk the Water Turtle. As we meet each animal up close\, we’ll learn about their unique adaptations\, behaviors\, and how wetlands help provide the food\, water\, and shelter they need to survive. \nAfter meeting our animal ambassadors\, we’ll head outdoors for a guided walk through the wetlands to search for signs of native wildlife in their natural habitat. Along the way\, we’ll keep an eye out for evidence of one of the wetland’s most fascinating residents\, the beaver (of course! ????)\, and discover how its engineering skills help create and maintain healthy wetland ecosystems. \nJoin us for a hands-on exploration of the amazing animals and habitats that make Murfree Spring such a special place to learn\, discover\, and connect with nature. ????????????????????
